Artists Beyond Obvious share a love of exploring new and different ways to express ourselves through our art, each in our own individual way. We meet weekly for group critique sessions, to view each other’s work and give structured feedback – sharing a lively art discussion over coffee. These weekly sessions keep us motivated to higher artistic endeavours – despite life’s distractions.
We came together in 2005, as a result of a Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society workshop–”Watercolor Beyond the Obvious.” Stimulating discussions of what art is and is not, the elements and relationships of design, and the requirement to deliver completed work every week for critique is the stimulus for creative energy that continues to inspire the artists in our group. These days, our members now work in a diverse range of media – oils, acrylics, drawing, fiber art, pottery, print making, mixed media, photography, collage and sculpture as well as watercolor. We are proud of the many awards and achievements individual members have earned in the regional, national, and International art world.
