About the Artist |
 Born
in Edinburgh, Scotland, Marion won an early art prize in a school
competition at age ten. After taking her degree in Pure Mathematics,
for many years painting took a back seat to science and technology.
But in 1998, a career move into web design gave the opportunity to
branch out into the visual arts. Marion now spends only part of her
time designing by computer, and the rest painting watercolors and
drawing. Her love of color is the dominant feature in most of her
paintings, while her interest in geometry gives a sense of organization
and shape. With a preference for natural subjects and inspired by
the sights around her, Marion enjoys sketching outdoors, particularly
when traveling. Finished paintings, however, are usually done in a
more leisurely manner in the studio, with suitable music to set the
mood!
Marion holds a Certificate of Fine Arts (CFA) from UC Santa Cruz. She has also studied with well-known artists such as M.E. Bailey, Jean Warren, Christopher Schink, Marie Macdonald Roberts, Floy Zittin, Jane Hofstetter, Carla O'Connor and Skip Lawrence. Member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society (SCVWS) where she spent two years as Exhibits Chair, and is currently the Webmaster.
